About Us
The Coldwater Mini Ironman Triathlon was started in 1985 by a Coldwater Triathlete as a Jaycee Community Project. It was used as a fundraiser to enable the Jaycees to support various activities around the Community. The Jaycees continued to sponsor the Mini Ironman until the fall of 1997 when the group decided to embark on other Community activities. That fall, the Coldwater High School Track & Cross Country coach saw an opportunity to use the Mini Tri as a fund raiser for these 2 High School sports. After contacting some friends in the community a non-profit group was formed with the purpose of continuing the Mini Ironman and using the proceeds to provide supplementary funding for the Coldwater High School Track & Cross Country teams. Thus, COLDWATER ON THE RUN was founded and has sponsored the race since 1998. The Track & Cross Country teams & parents provide the volunteers needed to put on the race, with the assistance of the Coldwater State Police Post Explorers and some really dedicated Jaycees that have Triathlon in their blood. Because of the size of the physical facility we are limited to 150 participants which happens to be the same size as TRI-FED establishes for a swim wave. This does allow us to keep the race small and friendly, with a lot of repeat participants. Being a small race makes it a very good starter race for the novice or 1st time racer. The swim is short, 300 yds., basically a straight line swim with a left turn into the ramp. The swim course is along the eastern shore of beautiful Coldwater Lake and the water depth will be from 3’ to around 8’ so it allows for swimmers of all skill levels to compete comfortably. The Bike course follows Lake Dr. and Warren Rd. to just east of the I-69 overpass on Warren Rd. then turns onto Maxson Rd. to the turn around. The Bike course is flat and paved, but there are stones on the edge, especially at the corners if they are taken too sharply. The Run course has a few small elevation changes as the road around the lake to the south rises above the lake in some spots on Lake Dr. |
